Clayton Brinster, M.D. is currently Associate Professor of Surgery and Co-Director, Center for Aortic Diseases, at University of Chicago Medicine. His clinical practice focuses on complex endovascular aortic surgery, urgent carotid surgery, and the development of multi-specialty, multi-institution protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of carotid web.
Brinster earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. He then earned an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed a general surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He pursued a fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by endovascular aortic surgery fellowships at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Spain and Klinikum Nürnberg, Germany. Most recently, he served as a senior staff surgeon and founding Director of the Ochsner Aortic Center at Ochsner Health in New Orleans.
His research has been published in Journal of Vascular Surgery; Journal of the American College of Surgeons; Journal of Vascular Surgery Cases, Innovations, and Techniques; Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery; Annals of Thoracic Surgery; Journal of Endovascular Therapy; Annals of Thoracic Surgery; and Nature Medicine.
